I was initially interested only because this looks nothing like the motorcycle bag, not that there is anything wrong with the motorcycle it’s just that Balenciaga has done nothing new in 10 years. When I go in to my neighborhood noodle shop and half the women there has that bag or a close approximation of it, I’m gonna be turned off. But after looking at it for a couple of days, I have come to really love it. Not just because this is new for Balenciaga and I’m excited to see something new, this bag does stand on its own merit. Those giant outer pockets are the bomb! OK, so the straps are not at all original but who cares, it totally works here. Thank you for the shoulder pads because I just don’t have it in me anymore to suffer for fashion. There is a total rocker vibe here that fits into a non-musical lifestyle. The exaggerated proportions, that’s what does it here. Love! At Barneys New York for 95.

Oh, Interpol. We've missed you. This fall the Joy Division-indebted group will release Interpol, their first album since 2007's Our Love to Admire.Early nuggets, including the just-released single Barricade, have been posted online and so far the band seems less moody than we last found them, with a sound closer to Antics, than that of their debut, Turn On the Bright Lights. Overall, we can expect more of the same from the NYC post-punkers, and, if you love Interpol (we do!) that's a good thing to hear. The upcoming album is slated for release on September 14, 2010 via Matador Records. You can pick up the Barricade single now on iTunes.

Manolo says, it is Tuesday, time to see what the Manolo is….
Reading…
Watching…
Listening to…
This article in the Slate magazine, by Ron Rosenbaum, it sent the Manolo back to the Nabokov to reread the poetry of Pale Fire. And now, the Manolo cannot but agree that the” John Shade” poem “Pale Fire” is the superior work of poetry, something that should be regarded as one of the greater works of post-war versifying.
But, even before this reevaluation, the Manolo had always considered the opening stanza of “Pale Fire” to be among his favorites.
I was the shadow of the waxwing slain
By the false azure in the windowpane;
I was the smudge of ashen fluff — and I
Lived on, flew on, in the reflected sky.
And from the inside, too, I’d duplicate
Myself, my lamp, an apple on a plate:
Uncurtaining the night, I’d let dark glass
Hang all the furniture above the grass,
And how delightful when a fall of snow
Covered my glimpse of lawn and reached up so
As to make chair and bed exactly stand
Upon that snow, out in that crystal land!
And, likewise, It is that shockingly ridiculous juxtaposition between the beauty of John Shade’s poetry and the prosaic lunacy of Charles Kinbote’s commentary that never fails to make the Manolo laugh.
Without doubt, this book is the work of genius.

I’m not into patchwork bags but this one is actually interesting and done fairly well so I felt it at least deserved a mention (and hopefully a snob reader will adopt it!). Parker Ochs’s Frederico Travel Bag is that perfect casual & slouchy bag– great for traveling or just running around doing daily errands. The crocodile panels (front, back and sides), however, lend the hand stitched bag a touch of sophistication so you can actually dress it up. I am impressed that they are able to keep the price so low, the handle is even made of woven crocodile! Little touches of luxury, sometimes that is all you need.
